Return of the Light

"Ulysses of the Old Light". That was what he was known as to the world around him. It has been a while since his tales were chronicled. A recap of his adventures had been deemed necessary.

There have been many changes in the syndicate where Ulysses resides. Changes in leadership had left the syndicate in a state of upheaval. Many of member's attitudes and motivations have been compromised and altered. It wasn't the same as it once had been when he first became initiated into the fold. But, Ulysses had made the best of the situation, as he always does. His close group of allies seemed to have become more tighter and close knit, though he still had a feeling that something was not right. Like, perhaps the trust was being tried.

A past infatuation with a syndicate member ended with her finding solace with another. A person Ulysses thought was a loyal member of his network.

Actually, The Old Light, which is the source of his power, had all but been extinguished and for a long time Ulysses had lost his guiding light. A lack of creativity and motivation to go out and adventure had come over him. He need a way to nurture the light back into it's purest form. Ulysses and his ally Narba decided to venture out into the vast city time after time in search of a way to restore the light to Ulysses. In the end, they were successful and Ulysses once again had control of the Old Light.

Now...

As far as changes in the syndicate went, to enable that they had enough soldiers at hand, a mass recruitment was initiated by the Man. From it, many new potential recruits (New Blood as the were called) were gathered and sent through training. Ulysses always enjoyed the new recruits. He remembered when he was green and bright eyed. He took a few under his wing and helped to prepare them for the trials and tribulations that they would face. One, however, caught his eye more so than the others. Her name was Fayth. There was something different about this New Blood that Ulysses couldn't shake off. He needed to find out more about her. Through much probing he requested from an ally, Laeser, Ulysses learned a great deal about her.

Though, as with the recruitment of new blood, there was always competition to be dealt with. Ulysses, sharp as a tack, discovered that an ally may have his own stake in the matter with the new blood. It was an interesting and unforeseen blow to all that Ulysses had been working up to. A comrade had now entered the fray as an opponent. With more experience and worldly knowledge over himself, Ulysses felt a little foolish for trying to pursue Fayth, who's own experience even overshadowed his own. But, Ulysses must remember that he has the power of The Old Light fueling his very soul. It never has steered him wrong in the past. All he can do is trust it.

Though now, his trust in the syndicate has become more strained as lies and deception seem to surround him. Ulysses had since decided that his network needed to be filtered out and has begun to take measures in securing the few in which he could fully trust. Ulysses is no fool. He knows that there are spies within the syndicate. Whether or not they will try to make haste against himself has yet to be confirmed. But for now, all Ulysses can do is nurture the light, because with it, he can never do wrong.
